In today's technology-centered world, student immersion in both STEM and the humanities is vital for success.
All students need to communicate effectively, approach complex problems in creative ways and work in a digital age.
The addition of the Collaboratory, a state-of-the-art research communication hub, will provide students with a hands-on space to combine their knowledge of humanities with technological skills and prepare them for future careers that we can only begin to imagine.
In the Collaboratory, faculty and students will work together using digital tools necessary to create and share knowledge. They will conduct multidisciplinary research that contributes to the campus, the University of Missouri System and national and international research communities.
The 1,150-square-foot space will contain three areas:
Audio Recording Create professional recordings in our dedicated audio recording studio. Equipped with four Shurecast microphones and Sony headsets, a RodeCaster Pro mixing board, and a computer, the studio allows researchers to record interviews, create podcasts, or share their research in other creative auditory ways. Easy to use equipment and sound-dampening features makes recording simple and allows you to share expertise and ideas with a wider audience.
Use our dedicated space to record presentations, video interviews, or papers. High-quality microphones, lighting, and a camera along with a large-screen monitor with access to Zoom and Panopto provide a professional setting for recordings. Sound dampening panels also reduce echoes and outside noises.
Bring your artifacts and projects to a wider audience with a small 3D scanner. Scanned items can then be shared online so people can see it from multiple angles.
Host traditional or digital museum-type displays in this publicly-accessible space. Wall hangers and two touch-screen displays are available to mount posters, online projects, or other research presentations.
Collaborate with others using our large touch-screen Vibe board. Share your ideas in real-time with colleagues in our Collaboration space or across the globe. Save your projects for future use easily on multiple devices. To learn more about Vibe, visit Vibe Interactive Whiteboard for Remote Collaboration | Vibe https://vibe.us/
Flexible space to meet with your research collaborators and work on projects. Moveable tables and chairs, whiteboards, and the Vibe board make it user friendly for brainstorming, creating, and sharing research. Bring your own devices or use equipment in place. It’s a great space for creative collaboration!
